Today, at the IBM Forum 2010 in Split, the successful implementation of the self-scanning solution in the Super Konzum store in Zagreb was presented.
The introduction of the self-scanning solution, which Konzum realized in collaboration with IBM, represents the first implementation of this kind in retail in Croatia allowing Konzum’s customers to shop in a completely new way, according to the statement. The need to accelerate the purchasing process and introduce innovative solutions tailored to the demands of an increasing number of customers resulted in the implementation of the new self-scanning solution. Self-scanning systems, in combination with existing POS systems, enable a new level of service quality for customers and optimize the purchasing flow. Customers who are users of the MultiPlusCard loyalty rewards card will now have the option to take a handheld scanner upon entering the store, with which they will scan the products they wish to purchase, thus having direct insight into their purchases. After the customer marks/scans a product, a message will appear on the scanner’s screen indicating that the product has been added, its price, and the total amount spent on the selected products so far. With each further additional selection of products, the total spending amount increases, and if the customer decides to return any of the products, they can do so by canceling that product on the scanner and returning it to the shelf. After selecting the products, the customer completes their purchase at a special MultiPlusCard express checkout, where handing over the scanner to a Konzum employee at the checkout automatically reads the purchase and processes the payment. By using the new technology, customers are enabled a faster purchasing flow and significant time savings.
