The Coordination of the Croatia Airlines unions has sent an open letter to Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, warning about the poor performance and financial losses of the national airline while other airlines in the region are operating profitably.
Four unions united in a coalition expressed concern for jobs and the future of the Croatian airline and requested a meeting with Kosor, as the representative of the owners. "While Croatian airports are recording record traffic growth, and the tourist season is already considered one of the most successful, the financial losses of Croatia Airlines are increasing. The number of passengers and traffic is drastically falling, planes are not flying, and we are ceding routes to other companies." Regardless of the global crisis, how is it possible that other airlines operating in this region are profitable, expanding their offerings and capacities, while we are falling to the very bottom of Europe in terms of occupancy and canceling more and more flights? At a time when the media is reporting on the unexpectedly rapid recovery of the airline industry, Croatia Airlines continues to accumulate losses, the unions warn.
