The government decided at today’s meeting to accept the proposal of investment projects of interest to the Republic of Croatia, which relate to the sectors of energy, transport, tourism, and water management, with a total value of around 15 billion euros.
To this end, it has obligated state-owned companies to submit to the government, within 20 days, a proposal for financing and the timeline for the realization of each project listed in the adopted catalog. The majority of projects relate to the energy sector, but the highest value is found in projects from the water management sector, where four projects require 4.3 billion euros. All listed projects are already in some phase of realization, although most do not have a financial structure. In the tourism sector, the government’s intention is not to intervene directly but to try to attract interested investors. One of the highlighted projects is the Pelješac Bridge, which the government intends to continue building, and the need for construction is justified by the necessity of maintaining territorial continuity due to entry into the Schengen border regime. The largest item in the transport sector is the lowland railway from Rijeka to the border with Hungary, with a total value of 3.6 billion euros, for which, according to Transport Minister Božidar Kalmeta, there is interest from private investors from China, but there is also the possibility of financing from European Union funds. At the beginning of November, a tender will be announced for ten properties owned by the Republic of Croatia, and in the middle of this month, a call for competition was published for the selection of an authorized court expert to choose the most favorable offer for the assessment of the usable value of the properties.
