Mazda has set a new world record with its iconic MX-5 roadster and entered the Guinness World Records. This Saturday, October 18, 459 cars formed the longest MX-5 parade of all time at the Zollverein location in Essen, a UNESCO World Heritage site – surpassing the previous world record of 249 cars in New Zealand.
‘Excitement leading up to this gathering was exceptional,’ said Jeff Guyton, President and CEO of Mazda Motor Europe. ‘More than 600 MX-5 owners registered for the gathering; so many that, for technical reasons, we did not have enough space for all of them. The gathering, the parade, the multitude of visitors – the Mazda MX-5 today demonstrated why it is still one of the most beloved sports cars in the world.’ The last spots in the MX-5 parade for the world record were sold at an eBay auction for charity. This included a passenger seat next to German actor Ralf Bauer and a seat in another Mazda MX-5. The bidding for these spots raised around 1,300 euros, which Mazda Germany rounded up to 3,000 euros and donated to SOS Children’s Village.
