New Yorkers will no longer be allowed to smoke in parks or on beaches. This decision was made by Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The smoking ban still needs to be confirmed by the city council, which will be merely a formality, reports hrt.hr
The science is clear on this issue: prolonged passive exposure to tobacco smoke, whether indoors or outdoors, š harmful to health, said Bloomberg explaining his decision. Once this law is passed, all New Yorkers will be able to š walk in the park and enjoy the beach without inhaling the smoke from others’ cigarettes, emphasized city council member Christine Quinn. She added that this law will save lives and make New York a healthier city. Michael Bloomberg, a former smoker who has become a fierce critic of smoking, faced strong opposition in 2003 when he banned smoking in bars and restaurants. (hrt.hr)
