During August, 2,663 new passenger vehicles were sold in Croatia, which is 32.6 percent or 1,290 cars less than in July of this year, but 9.5 percent or 233 vehicles more than in August of last year, according to data from the agency Promocija plus based on data from the Ministry of the Interior on new registrations of passenger vehicles.
Data for the first eight months show a continued decline in car sales on an annual basis – a total of 26,064 passenger vehicles sold is 19.6 percent or 6,365 vehicles less than in the first eight months of last year. The best-selling car brand in August was Opel with 380 vehicles sold, and with 3,405 cars sold in eight months, Opel maintained a leading market share of 13.06 percent. In second place for sales in August was Ford with 254 cars sold, while with a total of 1,448 sold in eight months, it ranks eighth with a market share of 5.56 percent. Third in August was Renault with 222 cars sold, while it sold 2,117 at the eight-month level, securing the fourth market position with a share of 8.12 percent.
Fourth place with 215 cars sold in August was Chevrolet, but it ranks third on an annual basis with a total of 2,129 cars sold and a market share of 8.17 percent. Peugeot, with 214 vehicles sold in August, holds fifth place, which it also maintains in eight months with 1,909 vehicles sold, representing a market share of 7.32 percent. Although it ranks only sixth in sales in August with 196 vehicles, Volkswagen is in second place over eight months, behind Opel, with 3,017 vehicles sold and a share of 11.58 percent. Among models, the best-selling in the first eight months of this year was the Opel Astra (1,631 vehicles), followed by the Volkswagen Polo (1,314), Opel Corsa (1,069), Volkswagen Golf (854), and Renault Megane (800). Of the total cars sold in the first eight months of this year, 64.6 percent were ‘gasoline’ vehicles, and 35.4 percent were ‘diesels’.(H)
