A Hole of 70 Million Kuna in the Rijeka City Treasury

The city authorities claim that nothing dramatic is happening regarding the execution of the budget, but the balance for the first six months shows that unpleasant days are ahead and that the City of Rijeka is facing a difficult and long autumn, writes novilist.hr.

Namely, a deficit of almost 50 million kuna has been carried over from the previous year, and this should be added to a shortfall of 18 million kuna in the first half of 2010. This means that the total deficit of the city treasury amounts to almost 70 million kuna. The executive bodies of the City of Rijeka have been discussing exclusively about increasing the budget since 2000, and the Mayor’s Collegium will discuss at the meeting on Tuesday the figures that testify to the hungry months ahead. Total revenues and receipts achieved in the first six months amounted to 353.7 million kuna or 40.7 percent of the annual plan. In the same period, total expenditures and outlays of the budget amounted to 371.6 million or 42.8 percent of the annual plan. (www.novilist.hr)
