The Japanese automaker has announced that it is recalling 1.13 million Corolla and Matrix vehicles from the U.S. market due to engine problems, manufactured from 2005 to 2008.
The vehicles are being recalled due to a potential defect in the engine control module, as stated by Toyota’s U.S. subsidiary. The recall was announced two days after the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that it has intensified its investigation into the Corolla, the most popular sedan from the world’s largest automaker, which it initiated in February. In a statement posted on the NHTSA website, it is noted that the investigation was expanded because the engine in Corolla and Matrix models sold between 2005 and 2007 can sometimes stop working without warning at any speed and cannot be restarted.
