McAfee Begins to Conquer the Smartphone Protection Market

The American company McAfee has announced the completion of its acquisition of Trusted Digital. With this acquisition, McAfee has made a stronger entry into the field of mobile device protection and management.

Trusted Digital is a company that offers its users solutions known as Enterprise Mobility Management, which enable monitoring of security, activation, and management of mobile devices. The advantage of EEM solutions is the ability to work across multiple platforms (iPhone OS, Android, Web OS, Windows Mobile, and Symbian), allowing users the freedom of individual platform choice and even mixed environments. The next step is the integration of this solution into the ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO), McAfee’s management platform. This way, all devices, from desktops, servers, laptops to mobile devices, would be monitored from a single location.

This would significantly ease the work of IT departments at a time when mobile devices are becoming equal business tools as computers. The reasons why McAfee decided on this acquisition were best explained by McAfee’s CEO David DeWalt: “Our customers and industry analysts share my excitement and belief that this acquisition was made at the right time, as it coincides with the dramatic increase in the use of ‘smart’ phones for business purposes, and with the increased concern for data protection prompted by the capabilities of new phones. Trusted Digital provides a strong suite of security and management tools for phones, which will allow McAfee to make strides into new markets, protect new platforms, and strengthen its leading position.” (M.N.)
