At the end of July, the Croatian Employment Service recorded 282,792 unemployed individuals, which is 3,048 persons or 1.1 percent less than the previous month, and 34,206 persons or 13.8 percent more than in July of last year, as reported by HZZ on its website.
In July, 16,944 individuals from the register of the Employment Service found employment, either through an employment contract, a contract for work, or other forms of work, of which more than a third were employed in seasonal jobs. The number of individuals who found employment in July is 25.7 percent higher than in the same month last year, and 1.5 percent lower than the previous month. Based on employment contracts, a total of 16,587 individuals were employed, which is 26.3 percent more than in July of last year and 1.4 percent less than in the previous month.
The highest number of them were employed in accommodation services and food preparation and serving (4,093 persons or 24.7 percent of the total number of employed in July), retail (19.8 percent), manufacturing (16.4 percent), and construction (7.3 percent). A total of 6,066 individuals were employed in seasonal jobs, accounting for 36.6 percent of all employed under employment contracts. The number of seasonal workers decreased by 12.9 percent compared to the previous month, but increased by 1,762 or 40.9 percent compared to July 2009.
In July, 10,143 individuals left the register for reasons other than employment, such as irregular reporting or deregistration from the register, non-compliance with legal provisions, retirement, etc. Thus, a total of 27,087 individuals left registered unemployment in July (2.5 percent less than the previous month and 13.5 percent more than in July last year). In July, 24,039 individuals registered as unemployed (39.9 percent more than the previous month and 5 percent less than in July of last year).
