Although billionaires, Bill Gates and his wife Melinda have so far donated 28 billion dollars to charity, which is almost half of their total estimated wealth. Their example has inspired the third richest man in the world, investor Warren Buffett, who has committed to donating 99% of his wealth – estimated at around 50 billion – to charitable causes.
Among the billionaires who have joined their campaign are New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Fox co-founder Barry Diller, media mogul Ted Turner, David Rockefeller, and director George Lucas, reports the portal hrt.hr. They have managed to attract 40 billionaires to the campaign aptly named The Giving Pledge. Their desire is to include all 403 billionaires, as listed by Forbes, living in the United States. Meanwhile, there are a total of 793 billionaires in the world with a total estimated wealth of nearly four and a half trillion dollars.
