According to the traffic development strategy of Croatia, the state road D2, known as Podravska magistrala, which connects the western and eastern parts of the country and links to the network of major European roads, was ranked seventh among Croatian road priorities a decade ago, writes vecernji.hr.
While Dalmatian politicians have managed to connect almost every larger village in their region with modern roads, for the people of Podravina and Slavonia, the Strategy has remained just a letter on paper. Even the June warning from Austrian agencies that Podravska magistrala, which sees between 15,000 and 20,000 vehicles daily, is the most dangerous Croatian road, has not prompted any changes in traffic policy.
