StarCraft II Breaks Sales Records

The long-awaited computer game StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty sold one and a half million copies in the first 48 hours, announced Blizzard Entertainment, making it the most successful launch of a computer game in 2010.

On the second day, another half a million copies were sold, meaning that it sold one and a half million copies worldwide in 48 hours, officially making StarCraft II the fastest-selling strategy game of all time. After twelve years, the game StarCraft received a sequel that was released simultaneously in North America, Europe, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

‘We launched StarCraft II in eleven languages and on five continents because we wanted to enable as many users as possible to connect and play from day one,’ said Blizzard’s director Mike Morhaime. The original StarCraft was one of the most popular strategy games, selling 11 million copies in 12 years, with 1.5 million copies sold in its first year. StarCraft II has already surpassed the first-year sales of the original in just the first two days, and analysts have predicted that it will sell around five million copies in the first year. (Z. S.)
