Although Zadar’s cruise tourism is experiencing a slight decline in July and August, the plans that are already being prepared – particularly for the new port of Gaženica – are bringing Zadar onto the list of the most attractive ports for the largest cruise ships in the world, with a multiple increase in the number of passengers compared to the current figures, writes slobodnadalmacija.hr
– The actions we are taking are long-term, and we are working hard on developing a strategy for the future port of Gaženica. We are already preparing to announce a call for the concession of the dock, we have contacted some shipping companies and sent them the port plans to hear their wishes and possibilities regarding the new port. People may have expected that cruise tourism would happen overnight, but it is a long journey in which we have already accomplished a lot. After the new dock in the Peninsula opened Zadar, albeit for smaller cruise ships, we are now developing models for the new port in Gaženica, which will have a large terminal building and several docks intended for cruise ships. We aim to be a ‘homeport’, a port of departures and arrivals, and we are supported by good road connectivity of the port and the proximity of the airport – says the director of the Port Authority of Zadar, Ivica Burić.
