Croatian citizens spend 340 euros per person for their vacation. This is more than in any other Eastern European country, except Slovenia. Its citizens spend 600 euros per person for their annual vacation, according to a 2009 study by the Vienna consulting firm RegioPlan Consulting.
According to data from this company specialized in location analysis and market analysis in Europe, expenditures for annual vacations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are 300 euros per person, Hungary 290 euros, Poland 185 euros, Bulgaria 100, and Romania 85 euros per person. The study also shows that Croats prefer to spend their annual vacation in their own country. This is linked to the fact that about 33% of the Croatian population lives in counties with access to the sea. Therefore, it is not surprising, as noted by RegioPlan, that about 1.6 million Croats spent their annual vacation in Croatia last year. About 260,000 spent their vacation abroad. In total private consumption of Croatian households in 2009, a decline of about 2.5% was recorded. The crisis-induced decline in personal income encourages consumers to be more cautious in spending money. Therefore, stagnation in average expenditures for annual vacations is expected this year, according to the statement.
