The director of the Ruđer Bošković Institute, Danica Ramljak, announced the organization of the first international summer school on nanoscience in Croatia. The Adriatic School on Nanoscience will take place from September 19 to 23 this year in Dubrovnik, and it is expected to gather a team of top lecturers as well as participants from various countries.
– Croatia has not had an organized nanotechnology strategy so far, but there is expertise at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, the Institute of Physics, and the Faculty of Science and Mathematics – emphasized Ramljak, adding that the Institute is considering launching a nanotechnology center. The center, where future technology would be developed, already has a potential partner in an international company, whose identity the director did not wish to disclose for now. As a result of patenting innovations and high technologies, two new spin-off companies of the IRB – Biozyne and Artes Calculi – will begin operations in September this year. This has proven that even basic research yields results that have economic applications. In addition to the announcement of the summer school, a new visual identity of the IRB was presented, and the director of the Institute also announced an official letter to Prime Minister Kosor, in which she will request the official initiation of Croatia’s entry into CERN.
