Starting from August 1, professional DJs will have the opportunity to sign a contract with ZAMP, led by Nenad Marčec, for the reproduction of music in mp3 format, which means they will be able to legally reproduce music from their computers for a fee.
Until now, the police have classified the reproduction of music from computers as a criminal offense, and, as stated by ZAMP, have confiscated equipment from DJs. By signing the contract, DJs will be authorized to play a maximum of 10,000 songs that they have copied from CDs or DVDs to a hard drive or another storage device. The daily fee will amount to 150 kuna, the quarterly fee to 1,176 kuna, the semi-annual fee to 2,000 kuna, and the annual fee to 3,400 kuna, with each DJ receiving a hologram as proof of payment. ZAMP emphasizes that this act will not legalize piracy, and the contract can only be signed if the music on the computer is recorded from legal sources. (S. M.)
