The Supervisory Board of the Croatian Privatization Fund (HFP) unanimously elected Goran Marić (HDZ) as president at today’s constitutive meeting, and Slavko Linić (SDP) as vice president.
The members of the HFP Supervisory Board were appointed by the Parliament last week, and today they met for the first time since 2004, when the previous assembly held its constitutive meeting, after which it did not convene again. According to the Law on HFP, this body is obliged to supervise the legality of the HFP’s operations and report to the Croatian Parliament once a year, but this has not happened until now. However, Marić announced today that the next meeting will be held as early as September, after which the HFP Supervisory Board will submit its report to the Parliament within the regular timeframe. In response to a journalist’s question about why the constitution of this body was delayed for years, the president of the HDZ parliamentary club, Andrija Hebrang, explained that this was not possible because the HFP never requested the appointment of a new Supervisory Board. "How could we have known that the Supervisory Board’s mandate had expired? As soon as the HFP informed us about it, the Parliament appointed the members of the Supervisory Board," said Hebrang, who was also a member of the previous HFP Supervisory Board. (H)
