Americans have high hopes for this floating refinery, which underwent complete modifications and preparations for the installation of refinery facilities at the Viktor Lenac shipyard. According to recently retired Admiral of the U.S. Coast Guard Thad Allen, as reported by CNN, the activation of the Helix Producer will increase oil extraction capacity to 53,000 barrels per day. At this moment, work is also progressing on two additional wells aimed at reducing pressure in the damaged one, which should facilitate efforts to stop the oil leak. These two so-called ‘relief’ wells are expected to be completed by early or, at the latest, mid-August. Helix Producer I is, in fact, a floating platform capable of extracting, purifying, processing, and sending up to 30,000 barrels of crude oil per day from the well through pipelines to the shore.
