The Special Hospital for Ophthalmology Svjetlost ranked seventh among the largest companies by revenue in 2009 in the private healthcare and social care sector. PROMO
Svjetlost is the only private healthcare institution among the top seven that does not operate in collaboration with HZZO and the state. It is the first in the ophthalmology industry. Despite the recession, Svjetlost achieved a revenue of 28 million kuna last year, which represents a growth of 40 percent compared to the previous year. In 2008, Svjetlost had 21 employees, in 2009 the number increased to 41, and in the first half of 2010, the number of employees reached 49. Four million kuna was invested in new equipment and technology, about 13 percent of total revenue in 2009.
In the first half of 2010, a revenue increase of 15 percent was achieved compared to the same period last year, while operating costs grew by 10 percent. These business results are above all expectations. Director Prof. Dr. Sc. Nikica Gabrić believes that despite the lower purchasing power, people are willing to invest in their health. However, he predicts that this year, especially the next, will be tougher than the previous one as the economic power of private individuals in Croatia decreases day by day.
