Although there has been speculation about the closure of Vjesnik, the newspaper will most likely continue to operate even after July 1. The director of Narodne novine press (the publisher of Vjesnik) Bojan Divjak and the president of the management board of Narodne novine Milivoj Fučkar discussed last week with Minister Šuker about the transitional period until the end of the year.
A financing model is still being sought, but Vjesnik’s management, as we have learned, is also working on projecting the amount of severance pay for employees in case Šuker does not give the green light. One of the solutions mentioned, besides the merger of HRT, Hina, and Vjesnik, which Lider has already reported on, is a public-private partnership model and privatization in which employees would take shares. The graphic workers’ union is not backing down from the strike at the Vjesnik Printing House announced for June 28, as the financial consolidation of the Printing House has not yet been resolved nor is the financing of the Vjesnik newspaper transparent.
