Journalists and other employees of Vjesnik have sent an open letter to the Government. They are asking what will happen to the employees after July 1, when Narodne novine, according to the decision of the Supervisory Board of that company, should cease publishing Vjesnik.
They warn that five days before the possible shutdown of the newspaper, they know nothing about the fate of Vjesnik and its employees. The Government has not responded, and they consider it responsible as it has led the editorial policy of Vjesnik for years. Therefore, they are asking whether the Government is willing to help preserve the newspaper. Furthermore, they believe that the model of a public newspaper implies the mandatory adoption of a law on Vjesnik that would define its editorial policy. (www.hrt.hr)
