Teva Pharmaceuticals, the world’s largest drug manufacturer and owner of Pliva, is soon to begin construction of a new production facility in neighboring Hungary, reports the portal slobodnadalmacija.hr
The investment is worth approximately 65 million euros, and with the opening of the factory, planned for 2014, 260 new jobs will be created for Hungarian workers. Given that Teva, as a globally recognized company, has repeatedly demonstrated determination when it comes to realizing its business plans, including during the acquisition of Pliva, when just under 800 employees were laid off at the beginning of last year, the question arises whether the construction of a production facility in close proximity will have negative impacts on the operations of the largest domestic pharmaceutical company.
Pliva representatives state that there is no fear of such an outcome. They say that in just one year of operating within the Teva group, production of a larger number of drugs and active pharmaceutical ingredients has been transferred to Pliva from other Teva locations, and Zagreb has become one of the strategic production locations for the entire group. They further emphasize that Pliva is recognized within Teva as a quality, competitive, and cost-effective location worth doing business in. To support this claim, Pliva provides data indicating that during the past year, production of finished dosage forms increased by more than 30 percent, with some facilities achieving record growth and producing nearly three billion tablets.
