The Republic of South Africa has invested more than three billion euros in infrastructure for FIFA’s World Cup. Additionally, around 20 billion euros will be invested in the transport and energy sectors by 2014, writes Deutsche Welle.
German companies particularly benefit from this. They participated in the construction of stadiums and supporting infrastructure – parking lots and roads. Contracts were also awarded to companies involved in energy supply. The Association of German Industrial and Commercial Chambers (DIHK) estimates that German companies have secured contracts worth one billion five hundred million euros. This has preserved or created 15,000 jobs in Germany. (Deutsche Welle)
