The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ivan Šuker stated after today’s negotiations with the unions of public and state services that the Government has decided to amend Article 262 of the Labor Law (ZOR), which regulates the application of rights after the expiration of the collective agreement, to which union representatives announced the possibility of a general strike.
It is simply time to establish order, Šuker told reporters in front of the Banski Dvori, explaining the Government’s intention to limit the application of rights from collective agreements after the expiration of the collective agreement to six months by amending Article 262 of the ZOR. If the employer and the unions do not agree on a new collective agreement within those six months, the rights of employees will cease to be valid, and the employer can regulate them through the work rules. The President of the Independent Union of Health and Social Care of Croatia, Spomenka Avberšek, stated that the unions must seriously respond to the Government’s intention to dismantle the “Bible of Workers’ Rights,” which are collective agreements, including organizing a general strike.
