Banks have been drivers of economic growth, but currently, they are adhering to conservative business decisions. However, together with information technology, they must lead this growth, said Piotr Jelenski, CEO of Asseco SEE, today during the opening of the regional conference on banking and information technologies in Umag.
Economic topics continued with a round table where representatives of the central banks of Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina presented measures they are taking to maintain macroeconomic stability in their countries during times of recession and crisis, particularly focusing on the standards brought to banks and IT professionals by Basel I and Basel II. Participants in the round table included HNB Vice Governor Davor Holjevac, Vice Governor of the Central Bank of BIH Radomir Božić, NBS Council President Dejan Šoškić, EBRD Senior Advisor Nicholas Jeffrey, and risk assessment expert from Deloitte Poland Adam Kolaczyk. The remainder of the conference was dedicated to the upcoming changes in the banking industry, which has undergone an intense transformation from a conservative activity to a modern sector focused on sales and the needs of individual customers. The conference is organized by Asseco SEE, one of the largest software development companies primarily aimed at the financial industry in the Southeast European region. (Marija Čekada)
