The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Darko Milinović, will present the new information system for primary health care, e-health, in Gospić. This involves connecting primary care offices with pharmacies and the so-called e-prescription.
The project has been implemented in the Lika-Senj and Međimurje counties, and its full application in Croatia is expected by the end of 2010. When this happens, paper prescriptions will become a thing of the past. The new system is expected to benefit chronic patients the most, who will no longer have to constantly visit the office for prescriptions but will only need to call their doctor and then go to the pharmacy. After the e-prescription is fully operational, the next phase will be e-referrals. Initially, it will function only for laboratory tests, and later for specialist examinations and consultations.
