Crobex Erased All Gains Since the Beginning of the Year

On the Zagreb Stock Exchange, the prices of most stocks are down today as investors are troubled by uncertainty regarding further developments in the domestic economy, and European debt problems are only adding fuel to the fire.

At 12:00 PM, the Crobex index was down 0.58 percent, at 2,004 points, and is at the level it was at the end of last year. The Crobex10 weakened by 0.63 percent, to 1,077 points. Regular trading in shares amounted to 13 million kuna, which is four million more than yesterday at this time. "Crobex has erased all gains since the beginning of the year today. However, this is not surprising after the announcement of poor financial reports from domestic companies for the first quarter and given that investors do not have a clear picture of what will happen in the domestic economy. Debt problems in the eurozone have only added fuel to the fire," says Dalibor Balgač, an analyst in the Economic Research Department of Hypo Alpe Adria Bank. The highest turnover, almost 6 million kuna, was achieved by the HT share, which weakened by 0.7 percent, to 266 kuna. This is its lowest level since November 10 of last year, when it closed at 264 kuna. Following in turnover is the share of Ericsson Nikola Tesla, which achieved 1.7 million kuna, and its price fell by 0.86 percent, to 1,499.96 kuna. Million kuna turnover was also achieved by the IGH share, with its price dropping by 0.95 percent, to 2,500 kuna. On European stock exchanges, stock prices are also down today, with leading indices in London, Paris, and Frankfurt down between 0.5 and 1 percent. Investors are awaiting the result of the vote in the German parliament on the aid package for the eurozone, but nervousness about the debt crisis and the future of the euro remains present. (H)
