Hewlett-Packard (HP) has reported a 13 percent increase in revenue in the last quarter, which is a clear sign that spending in the IT sector is on the rise, according to PCWorld.
Announcing revenue of $30.8 billion in this quarter, the company’s CEO Mark Hurd focused on long-term trends in the world – population growth, urbanization, and the increasing need for new devices that will undoubtedly emerge alongside these trends. HP will respond to these needs with a wide range of devices, focusing on management and automation. When asked about HP’s response to Apple’s iPad, Hurd did not provide any specific details but offered a broader perspective. Hurd stated that they at HP never believed that any device would become ubiquitous, indicating that he is not concerned about the fact that the world is a large place.
It is also overcrowded, currently having 6.8 billion people, and it is expected to reach nine billion by 2020. HP predicts more mobility and diversity in people’s desires for additional capabilities in the future, and that HP will focus precisely on the diverse product options it offers, Hurd stated. The planned HP acquisition of smartphone manufacturer Palm Inc. fits into this model. They decided to purchase Palm due to its intellectual property, which will be used in many of their devices. The acquisition, announced last month, is valued at $1.2 billion. (Z. S.)
