More than a dozen Salonit workers, led by the commissioner of the Croatian Association of Trade Unions (HUS) for Dalmatia, Jozo Marić, today expelled a group of workers from the company Adriaticblizna who were engaged in the decontamination and remediation of the factory from asbestos.
After a brief hesitation, the Adriaticblizna workers left the factory hall at the request of the Salonit workers, during which the factory siren sounded. The Salonit workers, who were dressed in white suits intended for asbestos decontamination, then welded the entrance to the factory facility, explaining that they wanted to prevent any potential return of the Adriaticblizna workers to the factory hall."We will stand guard and will not allow the return of Adriaticblizna workers," said Marić.
The job of remediation and decontamination of the Salonit factory was awarded to Adriaticblizna by a decision of the Split Commercial Court. Marić and the Salonit workers have been claiming for months that Adriaticblizna does not have permission to carry out the remediation and decontamination of asbestos. "We have photo evidence that illustrates that there was no cleaning of asbestos but rather ‘cleaning’ of copper and iron that were taken from the Salonit facility and sold," says Marić. The action of removing Adriaticblizna workers from the Salonit factory premises was observed by the police, who then conducted an investigation. There were no incidents during this action. (H)
