The state does not protect either textile workers or citizens. Clothing stores still receive some domestic products, but almost all second-hand stores only accept foreign goods.
In Zagreb, we managed to find a single store that buys domestic used clothing. While the domestic textile industry is gasping for breath, Croatian second-hand stores source used goods from imports – by the bags. Since we import fruits and vegetables, pork and beef, straw, willow štwigs, and even nettles that grow in meadows, the fact that even domestic used clothing is not good enough for us becomes less shocking. Everything and anything is imported into Croatia, including what we produce ourselves and for which we have production conditions and capacities.
