Despite a 26% decline in revenue compared to 2008, Ina remains the largest company by total revenue in 2009 according to the ranking of the 50 largest Croatian companies published in the latest issue of the business weekly Lider.
Following is Konzum, which managed to achieve the same total revenue as in 2008, and in third place is HEP. Among the top 10 are HEP – production and Erste&Steiermärkische Bank. The fifty largest companies generated 159.77 billion kuna in revenue and 6.7 billion kuna in profit last year. Compared to the previous year, there was a revenue decline of 13.8% and a staggering 51% drop in profit. Thirty-six companies operated positively, while in 2008, 41 out of the 50 largest companies reported a profit. The largest positive surprise comes from the ‘cursed’ shipbuilding sector. Uljanik shipyard, part of the Uljanik group, recorded the highest revenue growth among the 50 largest, at 18.2%, and a profit increase of as much as 127%.
