This morning, construction work has resumed on the entry-exit ramp to the underground garage of the Cvjetni prolaz complex, invested by Hoto Group. Activists from the Right to the City and Green Action associations are gathering in protest, and they have announced a press conference for 12 o’clock.
This is the second attempt to fell trees as the beginning of breaking through the ramp. The first was prevented at the end of January by activists from Green Action and Right to the City, who were joined by numerous citizens. According to all indications, the Ministry of Environmental Protection did not accept the complaints of Varšavska residents regarding the permit for the start of excavation work in the pedestrian zone in the city center, which would break through a passage for a private project with an underground garage of Hoto at the expense of public space and the city budget. The City of Zagreb, although its Assembly concluded that the resolution favoring the investor in the urban planning was poor, has not taken any further steps to prevent the damage that its implementation will cause, despite serious procedural violations in the previous process. The City Office for Spatial Planning, City Construction, Building, Communal Affairs, and Traffic has detailed the public about the commenced works on the reconstruction of part of Varšavska Street.
