On the Analysis of Financial Statements of Companies on May 27 and 28 at the Hypo EXPO Center

A specialized seminar and workshop on understanding and practical application of financial statement analysis and the development of valuation models for companies and projects will be held on May 27 and 28 at the Hypo EXPO Center in Zagreb, organized by the Mirakul Educational Center.

Lecturers Mr. sc. Kristian Korunić and Slaven Bošnjak, proven experts in the field of corporate finance and capital markets, will equip participants with the skills to understand and independently create models for company analysis based on publicly available data. The seminar consists of theoretical and practical parts, with an emphasis on reading, understanding, and independently preparing company reports.

The goal of the seminar is to familiarize participants with the analysis of financial statements of companies, early warning signs of potential problems, and the collection of publicly available data… Models and analyses that banks and other financial institutions require and apply when approving loans and financing specific projects will be presented.  The seminar is designed to introduce and teach participants detailed analysis of financial statements, as well as the basic steps in conducting the same, all aimed at applying the acquired knowledge to improve the quality of managing their own business environment.

Through accounting, financial, and scenario analysis, the seminar introduces participants to various analytical tools and techniques through which data from financial statements is transformed into usable information relevant for quality management and assessment of the company’s condition, as well as diagnosing business problems and resolving them.  In the financial analysis section, participants will be introduced to the basic groups of indicators (liquidity, profitability, leverage, activity, and investment indicators), their interconnections, as well as their relationship and importance within the DuPont system of indicators, Altman’s Z-score, and economic and market added value (EVA and MVA).

Through numerous examples from domestic and foreign practice, participants will become familiar with accounting manipulations, or the concept of ‘creative accounting’, where they will gain insight into the motives, techniques, and implications of accounting manipulations on the company and its environment through examples from domestic and foreign practice. Additionally, steps for conducting an analysis of the broader business environment and industry analysis will be presented, where participants will learn about the concept of the life cycle of a company/industry, Porter’s 5 Forces model, and SWOT analysis.

An important part of the seminar will be dedicated to various methods of valuing companies, with the greatest emphasis on one of the most widespread and commonly used methods, the discounted cash flow (DCF) method, where participants will be introduced to the basic steps in conducting it based on a real example.  On the second day of the seminar, participants will test their acquired knowledge of ‘reading’ and understanding financial statement analysis through numerous tasks from business practice based on examples of financial statements of a typical Croatian company. The target group of participants includes entrepreneurs and managers, employees in accounting and financial departments, bankers, portfolio managers, brokers, investment and financial analysts, investment advisors, individual and portfolio investors, risk managers and analysts, and all other interested parties.
