The Chinese car manufacturer Geely yesterday presented a small two-seater based on the IG concept in Beijing. It aims to claim the title of the creator of the cheapest car in the world, reports hrt.hr
It is estimated that it will cost between £1,500 and £2,000 (1,780-2,370 euros), thus being a quarter cheaper than the Indian model Tata Nano, which costs around £2,500 (2,965 euros). Geely, which recently purchased Volvo from Ford, also claims that the IG, or Intelligent Geely, will be of higher quality than the Nano. Geely already sells cars in Russia and Eastern Europe and plans to expand into other markets.
The Chinese version of the IG will be powered by a gasoline engine with 70 HP, and it will have front-wheel drive and a five-speed transmission. The electric version, which will follow in 2014 or 2015, will have a lithium-ion battery, an electric motor with 80 HP, and a maximum speed of 150 km/h. The concept will feature solar panels on the roof and engine cover to increase its range. (hrt.hr)
