At the meeting of the HRT Programming Council, nominations for the Director General were opened. Out of 20 submitted nominations, 18 are valid.
The candidates for the new Director of HRT are: Jozo Rajkovača, Boris Gregorić, Zoran Kalinić, Mate Pavković, Branimir Ježić, Nikola Kristić, Karolina Vidović Krišto, Goran Rotim, Marko Ugarković, Branimir Farkaš, Mario Raguž, Branko Debeljak, Nada Prkačin, Marko Malnar, Josip Popovac, Damir Šimunović, Veljko Jančić, and Dušan Radić. Discussions with the candidates will likely take place next week. This will be followed by a vote on the director. Since the Council has failed to elect a Director General in the previous two attempts, some changes have been introduced in the voting process.
Until now, it was sufficient to have 8 votes from council members to elect the director. Now, each council member has 15 points to distribute among the candidates. A single candidate can receive a maximum of five points. The five candidates who gather the most points will attempt to collect the eight necessary votes from the council members in the second round. The acting Director General of HRT since December 8, 2009, is Josip Popovac, who can lead the national broadcaster for a maximum of six months. After the Council elects the Director General, a public competition will be announced for the directors of HRT’s subsidiaries – Croatian Television, Croatian Radio, and Music Production.
