The spring session of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund has begun in Washington. Experts say that the Croatian government’s economic recovery program is encouraging, but now swift and strong implementation of measures is crucial. A moderate recovery is forecasted for Croatia this year, but they emphasize that the situation remains very difficult.
In response to those comparing us to Greece, they say – Croatia is not in the same situation, but there are some similarities – a higher public debt than most European countries and a high budget deficit.
Finance Minister Ivan Šuker and Deputy Governor Boris Vujčić are also participating in the session in Washington.
It is believed that Minister Šuker will discuss with potential creditors as the state plans to issue bonds in the international market in the coming months, with some being offered to American investors. It is estimated that total borrowing could amount to around two billion euros. (HRT)
