At five to noon in the center of Rijeka, at the Square of the 128th Brigade, a protest organized by the Association of Independent Trade Unions of Croatia began under the slogan “Together We Are Stronger.” Numerous citizens gathered for the protest, including workers from 3. maj who came from their shipyard.
The goal of the protest, say the organizers, is to gather workers, students, retirees, and all dissatisfied citizens to send a message to the Government that it is not possible to live under the current conditions in Croatia. "We will not give up our shipyard, we do not agree to the Government’s manipulations. They say that 3. maj will be privatized, but that is a lie. Their plan is not privatization but bankruptcy. Our ships are valued all over the world, but unfortunately not in our own country," said an indignant shipyard worker. Rijeka is, they note, the first step. If nothing is done, the workers warn that the next protest could be held at Markov trg. (H)
