Rohatinski: HNB Ready to Cooperate in the HAAB Case

The Governor of HNB, Željko Rohatinski, in light of media announcements regarding his testimony in the investigation of Hypo bank’s operations in Croatia before the investigative committee of the parliament of the Austrian federal state of Carinthia, stated that HNB is ready, in accordance with the regulations of the Republic of Croatia, to exchange information and discuss all matters within its scope of work related to the HAAB case, and that HNB expects appropriate inquiries or visits from representatives of the Austrian competent authorities in this regard.

The Austrian daily newspaper Der Standard announced in mid-March, citing the conclusions of a meeting of the four parties in the Carinthian parliament, that HNB Governor Željko Rohatinski would testify about the operations of Hypo bank in Croatia before the investigative committee of the parliament of the Austrian federal state of Carinthia. According to the Austrian newspaper, a summons for testimony in the large investigation of the Hypo group before the committee in Klagenfurt was sent to a total of 70 witnesses, including former Austrian Finance Minister Karl-Heinz Grasser, representatives of the Austrian Central Bank, the Financial Market Authority in Liechtenstein, former and current members of the management of the Hypo group, Carinthian state attorneys, and a number of politicians. According to sources from the newspaper, the testimony of Rohatinski is scheduled by Austrian parliamentarians for April 14 and 15. Hearings began last week. (www.hrt.hr)
