Judge Krešimir Devčić, after a closed hearing, decided that former Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polančec will remain in custody for a month to avoid influencing witnesses in Hungary, while lawyer Zoran Marković is released.
Polančec, who spent the night in the Detention Unit in Zagreb’s Oranice, was brought before the Zagreb County Court in handcuffs around noon, accompanied by his lawyer, while the lawyers of the accused, Anto Nobilo and Rajko Čogurić, along with USKOK, presented arguments in court for two hours. When asked why Polančec was handcuffed, Nobilo stated that it is standard procedure. – These are minor issues; what matters is how it will end. We will not appeal the custody decision – Nobilo stated. After the hearing, the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy was led out of the back exit of the County Court building and taken to prison in Remetinec. (www.jutarnji.hr)
