Foreign investments in Croatia were nearly halved by the crisis last year. However, Italians, Belgians, and Russians are announcing billions of euros in investments and thousands of new jobs this year, reports hrt.hr
Italians are announcing around 30 projects worth 650 million euros. Belgians are investing nearly 100 million in tourism and construction, while Russians are investing 102 million in the oil sector, tourism, and construction. Scandinavians are investing in the wood industry, and Austrians are investing in shopping centers in Split, Karlovac, and Buzin. With 6 billion euros, Austrians are our leading investors, but this year they are slowing down. Financing projects has become more difficult. Banks are wary of risks. Investors expect Croatia to provide faster and more effective administration and to combat corruption, said Roman Rauch, director of the Austrian Foreign Trade Office in Zagreb. So far, 24 billion euros have been invested in Croatia. In terms of foreign investments per capita, we rank 4th on the transition scale. (hrt.hr)
