The Programming Council did not elect a new director general of HRT. In the fourth round of voting, the current acting director Josip Popovac received 5 votes, the same as candidate Duško Radić, who is the director of programs at Croatian Radio.
Eight out of ten votes from members are required for the appointment. The Council will now announce a third competition, but only after the Council members change the electoral rules at the next meeting. They hope that this will facilitate the selection of the director general. Until then, the acting director general remains Popovac. In the first round, Josip Popovac received 5 votes, Duško Radić 2, Jakov Sedlar 1, Damir Šimunović 1, and Goran Rotim 1. In the second round, Popovac received 5 votes, Radić 3, Sedlar 1, and one ballot was invalid. In the third round, Popovac received 5 votes, Radić 4, and Sedlar 1.
Previously, consultations of the members of the Programming Council of HRT were held behind closed doors, after the completion of discussions with all candidates for the director general position. As a reminder, the Programming Council today discussed with the remaining 10 out of a total of 19 candidates who met the requirements for the selection of the director general of HRT. Today, Duško Radić, Zoran Kalinić, Marijo Kraljević, Damir Šimunović, Goran Rotim, Vesna Dubovečak, Jakov Sedlar, Goran Radoš, and Josip Popovac presented themselves. Veljko Jančić withdrew his candidacy after the presentation to, as he emphasized, facilitate the Council’s selection of the future director. Jozo Rajkovača did not appear at the presentation, but he was not disqualified for this as the Council members have his program and can vote for him if they wish. (www.hrt.hr)
