The fact that Croatia grew at the expense of loans only concerned a few analysts. Now, when the bill has come due, we are seeking a way out through protests. However, protests demanding money from the budget will not resolve the issues. But those that push the government to act – will! One just needs to know the difference.
God forbid we have and then have not, is an old Jewish curse and one of the worst things that can happen in life. Croatia, admittedly, has never had. It only had what it borrowed. And that is also on its last breath. In the first two months alone, the state treasury was short 3.6 billion kuna. When the (unrealistic) budget was being drafted, Minister Šuker miscalculated significantly – he thought that he would need to cover a deficit of nine billion kuna for the entire year. If the deficit continues to increase at this pace, he will need at least double that, around 17 billion kuna!
