Fifty-five percent of Swedes do not want to adopt the euro as their domestic currency. These are the results of a public opinion poll conducted by SIFO for the SVT program Agenda. Thirty-nine percent of respondents said they would like the euro to be introduced, while 11 percent are undecided.
Sweden rejected the euro in a referendum in 2003. To this day, three old EU member states—Sweden, Denmark, and the United Kingdom—have not adopted the euro. According to some indications, it is not expected that the question will be put to the Swedish citizens again in a referendum before 2014. (H)
