The President of the Croatian Government, Jadranka Kosor, stated today that the Government is considering requests from the Rijeka shipyard ‘3. maj’ for state guarantees and announced that the Government could make a decision next week.
"We are considering that possibility and at the next Government session, I expect that we could make a final decision," said Kosor at today's Government session, referring to the requests from the shipyard for state guarantees. A protest by the shipyard workers organized by two unions was held today in the vicinity of the "3. maj" shipyard, warning about the unsustainability of the current situation in "3. maj".
The chief union representative of the Croatian Metalworkers' Union branch, Juraj Šoljić, at that protest, among other things, requested from the Government a guarantee for a loan for the construction of tankers for domestic clients and the urgent appointment of members of the Management Board to replace the current acting officials. He also requested, on behalf of the union, the payment of salaries for January and the return to work of workers on standby. Prime Minister Kosor also reminded that the second round of privatization of the shipyard is ongoing and called on all interested parties to familiarize themselves with the tender conditions. With the desire, says Kosor, "of all of us that the tender absolutely succeeds." (H)
