In Croatian mobile networks, nearly 6 billion minutes were consumed last year, which is 6 percent more than the previous year, while in fixed networks, the decline in consumed minutes continued, decreasing by 6.8 percent to 5.18 billion minutes, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics.
Unlike the increase in consumed minutes, mobile networks recorded a decrease in the sending of both SMS and MMS messages last year compared to 2008. The number of sent SMS messages was 3.5 billion, or 8 percent less, marking the first annual decline in their number since the service’s inception. An even larger drop of 13.8 percent, with 802 million, was recorded for SMS messages in the last quarter of last year compared to the same period in 2008. Throughout the entire last year, there were about 24 million MMS messages, which is 45 percent less, but in the last quarter, they recorded an increase of 3.3 percent compared to the same quarter in 2008, totaling 5.5 million.
Regarding the consumed minutes in mobile networks, data from the Bureau shows that out of the total of 6 billion minutes, the majority, or 5.89 billion minutes, were consumed in domestic traffic, which is an increase of 6.3 percent compared to 2008. The remaining 103 million minutes were consumed in international traffic, continuing the decline in that consumption by 6.4 percent. In fixed networks, the decline in consumed minutes last year was recorded in both domestic and international traffic. Of the total ‘fixed’ 5.18 billion consumed minutes, the majority, or 4.88 billion, pertained to domestic traffic, which is a decrease of 6 percent. In international traffic, this decline amounted to 17.6 percent with 300 million minutes consumed.
