Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor has given a glimmer of hope to farmers who stored their grain in the silos of Đakovština and have been left without it. She stated that there is a possibility that the grain could be compensated to the farmers from the Commodity Reserves, which should determine over the weekend how much grain they have available.
Tonight is the deadline by which the County State Attorney’s Office in Osijek must decide whether to file an investigative request against the director of Đakovština, Mijo Matić, and board member Paško Gašpar, who are in custody. In addition to the investigative request, the on-duty judge will also decide on the possibility of extending the detention for the duo from Đakovština. After questioning about the malpractices involving grains and oilseeds that disappeared from the silos of Đakovština, five responsible individuals from the company were released home yesterday. Criminal charges have also been filed against them. As many as 1,636 farmers are claiming around 18 million kuna for the delivered goods from Đakovština, and 470 workers have not received their salaries for three months. The company is overall indebted by about half a billion kuna, of which 50 million kuna is owed to the state. (www.hrt.hr)
