The Slovenian Constitutional Court has decided that Croatian depositors of Ljubljanska Banka will be able to attempt to recover their savings in Slovenian courts again. It is still unclear whether the Constitutional Court’s decision allows for the continuation of only those proceedings that are already underway in Slovenian courts, or if it opens the possibility for new lawsuits, writes Jutarnji list.
It is reported that insiders claim that everything is now actually up to the local courts in Slovenia and how they will interpret the Constitutional Court’s decision. Although the Slovenian court made this decision back in December, Croatian authorities have not informed the domestic public about it. The exact number of lawsuits that Croatian citizens have filed against Slovenia is also unknown. Jutarnji list states that according to some data, there are only about a hundred lawsuits pending before the competent court in Ljubljana, of which five judgments were about to be executed before the ‘freezing’.
