Two criminal complaints were filed against the current mayor of Velika Gorica, Dražen Barišić, with USKOK in January, warn members of the City Council from whose ranks one of them was submitted.
They accuse him of destroying the local media house TV Gorica with his decisions, in which the city is one of the co-owners, and that he did so because he is connected to a competing TV house. The second complaint to USKOK was submitted by a company that claims that the tender on which they received the job of building a school gym was unlawfully canceled. The mayor did everything to annul that contract, made a whole series of procedural errors that led to them filing a criminal complaint for fraud because he signed a document promising something, which he later did not fulfill, stated Goran Beus Richembergh, president of the City Council of Velika Gorica.
In response to the accusations, Mayor Barišić states – with the decisions I made, I protect the property of the City of Velika Gorica and its citizens. Namely, the former mayor gave a representative city space to a private company without a tender (since the city is a minority owner of the television), provided equipment to the Television and a loan of 700 thousand kuna and another 500 thousand through the city company Vg water supply. After the deadline for repayment expired, I requested the return, and when that was not done, I activated the promissory notes. I also ordered an audit to get a true picture of the situation. The audit established facts in the business that other institutions need to address, and indeed, I invite them to do so, states among other things in Mayor Barišić’s statement. In response to the accusations regarding the termination of the contract for the construction of the sports hall, Barišić replies that everything is transparent and public, done based on the opinions and interpretations of the relevant state institutions.
