Airbus plans to double A380 aircraft production

Aircraft manufacturer Airbus plans to double the production of new A380 superjumbo aircraft in 2010, announced the company’s Chief Financial Officer Fabrice Breguier in an interview published on Tuesday.

"Airbus’s goal is to double A380 deliveries in 2010," Breguier said to the Paris daily Les Echos."Our goal is to deliver 20 A380 aircraft this year and achieve a steady delivery rate of two aircraft per month in the second half of the year," he added. In 2008, Airbus delivered 12 superjumbo aircraft.

Breguier stated that the company’s industrial capacity should ultimately allow them to complete four aircraft per month, while warning that "much more needs to be done to economize the production process and achieve a more systematic standardization in the long term." The production of superjumbo aircraft is hindered by the distance between the company’s various production locations. (H)
